Let's Play Darts...

Wednesday 10th October

World Grand Prix of Darts

Sky Sports 1
7pm

James Wade and Raymond van Barneveld were big casualties last night, but the short first rounds of the Grand Prix often lead to surprise exits.

Tonight sees ten times champion Phil 'The Power' Taylor in action in the second round after looking comfortable in his first match. They are still short matches and anything can happen as you have to start and finish on a double. If players don't hit the ground running that's when you see upsets. Here are my picks for a decent value accumulator tonight:

Brendan Dolan v Vincent van der Voort

Dolan lost in the final to The Power last year, and he will have an Irish crowd behind him, however to add value to the mix I'm going for van der Voort.

Justin Pipe v Kevin Painter

Pipe is favourite here but I'm going for Kevin for no better reason than he is The Artist.

Phil Taylor v Robert Thornton

Don't be silly. He has lost three times in the first round, but this is the second round. Phil 'Retires every year' Taylor everyday.

Mervyn King v Dave Chisnall

I'm going for the King here because he has nerves of steel.

van der Voort, Painter, Taylor and King: Best odds are 14.08 with www.Bet365.com

Might be worth a few quid, but as I said, The Grand Prix is so unpredictable because of it's short format.

He's back in the pavilion without troubling the scorers...

For any fans of cricket, if you are wanting Ashes tickets for 2013 then now is the time to get applying. They are selected by the ECB on a random ballot but there is an easy way to bump up your priority.

Get yourself signed up to the ECB's Twelfth Man Club for free- http://www.ecb.co.uk/twelfthman/manage-your-membership/register.html

Then you can go to the ground you want to book tickets for and use the code TWELFTHMAN with your application and you get bumped up the priority list.

I've applied for the Oval 5th test as I'm predicting it will be 1-1 going into the last test. Buzzing.

Good luck sports fans.

Half The Ground Thought It Was In...

Welcome to HTGTIWI. My new blog about sport which doesn't work very well as an acronym I have just discovered. My aim is to keep this blog as a place for top quality 'Armchair Punditry' on a plethora of sports. Predominantly football. In fact the ratio of different sports will probably be very similar to the classic system adopted by Sky Sports News' 'Good Morning Sports Fans'- so it's pretty much going to be football unless England are competing in another sport or it's a final. And pub sports- Darts and Snooker.

If it's football bets and reams of abusive 'banter' comments that you're after then I can only suggest Football Accumulators on Facebook. However I will endeavour to share the wealth on dead certs, which more often than not will be the most romantic option or simply stick a tenner on the Rams to win. Oh yes. I'm a Derby County fan.

I'm going to try and keep a few consistent features going along with general punditry throughout the week. I never thought I'd end up doing this and who knows how it will go, but we all hated Gary Neville at one point so you never know.

The most important thing to remember is this:

If Half The Ground Thought It Was In... It probably wasn't.
